Rafael on Sax

For those who have asked, Rafael continues to make his mark in the musical tradition and style of music called “Jazz”.  As of a few weeks ago, he is back in the “D” for the summer and will be working on a CD and also doing some writing.

He’s been playing jazz since he was 11 and has performed with the Detroit Symphony Jazz Orchestra, among many others.

Some of his influences include   James Carter, John Coltrane, Kenny Garrett and Robert Glasper.  He is also known to weave in blues, gospel, funk  and Asian-Japanese music.

When in Detroit, he is often seen at Cliff Bells or Bert’s Jazz Room.  In the fall he returns to New York’s New School for Jazz & Contemporary Music.
